Operations Manager – Greg

I’ve worked in the MTB industry since 2000. First creating a  MTB guiding company, Fat Tyre Adventures that ended up as Heli bike NZ operating out of Queenstown.  With over 10000hr of guiding experience I’ve helped develop the MTB guiding and instruction qualifications for NZQA that are now used by NZIOA and Te Mahi Ako.  I’ve worked for the Nelson MTB Club as The Gorge Operations Manager for 4 years.

It is a privileged to be able make The Gorge better than the day before, every day I work there. Keeping maintaining trails to being better than they were is always my goal.  One of my favourite things about working at The Gorge is the smiles of the riders
whether its their first shuttle or their 50th

Gorge Portfolio Holder – Brent

I’m on the Nelson Mountain Bike Club Committee and my Portfolio is The Gorge.  I work closely with Greg to help ensure everything is running smoothly.  I’ve been with the club for about 5 years and looking after The Gorge for a couple.

My advice to you is take your time and look around.  There is so many cool vantage points and sculptures that people miss because they are rushing to get the next shuttle.

It’s hard to name a single favourite trail. Creamed Rice is always my go to for a warm up.  Then on the Darkside it would be DMT.  But if I had to name just one it would be Nigh Nigh’s.

Gorge Driver – Fish

It’s well over a decade ago when I encountered The Gorge playground, first shredding trails and now as a crew member. The Gorge is a wilderness wonderland.  Aside from the epic trails, the beauty and uniqueness of the environment makes it such an awesome area to spend some time.

So many of the trails are mint!  One of my favourites is Nigh Nighs, its a fun, techy trail with some hidden nature gems….if you take a moment to explore.

There are trails at The Gorge waiting for you!  Pick ones that a fun, enjoy the froth, and ride at a pace that keeps you rolling back for more 🙂

I’ve been at the Gorge about 18 months.  The thing I like the most about working at the Gorge is meeting new people from all around the world and all walks of life.  The riders tell me Creamed Rice is an awesome but my favourite Trail is the one that leads to beers on the deck at Gibbs hut 🙂

Tip for your first trip: don’t be in a hurry, really enjoy each run rather than trying to do as many different trails as you can fit in the day.
Trail Crew – Eddie

I started riding the Gorge about 2012 and have been a member of the Nelson Mountain Bike Club since
2010. I became part of the trail crew in 2019 and was lucky enough to learn off some outstanding OG’s of the Gorge.

The hand made rock work and the beautiful native forest around the park are what I love most about The Gorge.  My favourite trails are Instant Kiwi and Natural Selection.

Hello there! I’ve been coming to The Gorge since the 2nd Dodzy in 2014.

I love the mountainess feel of The Gorge and its hand crafted trails.  For me, the best trail is Red line.

My hot tips for newbies: run foam inserts and dh casing tyres!
