Situated just south of Nelson, deep in the Wairoa Valley, ‘The Gorge’ is home to over 70km of world class hand-built single track. Trails start at grade 3 and go all the way to grade 6. You will get almost 1000m descending on every top to bottom run! Check out the most ‘backcountry’ feeling bike park in NZ.
The Gorge is operated by the Nelson Mountain Bike Club (NMTBC) for the benefit of our members and guests. To maximise your Nelson riding experience and gain member discounts, please become a member. NMTBC manage and maintain the trails and accommodation with a small crew and a large number of club volunteers. Check out the current projects and how you can help.

We will give you a radio for your group to keep you informed and in-touch when riding.
If you treat riding at The Gorge like going on a back country ride, then you will have what you need.
Bring your Bike, gloves, knee, and elbow protection and helmet (full face recommended) Snacks and lunch.
Check the weather before you come and choose the appropriate clothing – raincoat if it wet and warm jacket if it’s cold.
No Smoking or vaping.
By booking the Gorge product, you are accepting all risk associated with the activity as per T&C
Hire the whole park for you and your mates! For week days only-Monday to Thursday, and you can also request to have a later starting time if you wish. Nelson MTB club membership required for the person booking. $1400 (max 8)

This could be the best way to ride the Gorge. Get shuttle up to the top and then you the best of what ever trail you want down to Weiner road. THEN SINGLE TRACK CLIMBING at its best!!

Barry’s is very comfortable gas heated two story lodge that sleeps up-to 14
The lodge has hot showers, kitchen and lounge facilities.
You will need to bring your own food and linen/sleeping bag.
The kitchen has cooking and serving utensils.
Barry’s is Shoe free, please bring Slippers for inside.
Heating, beds and a kitchen, BBQ.
Food, a sleeping bag and pillow case. (the sheets on the bunks are a mattress cover only.)
There are no blankets or linen provided.
All food including sugar, salt etc:-there are no condiments supplied.

There are four double/twin rooms and a double en suite.
There is a wood fired pizza oven, open fire and fully equipped kitchen. Bike workshop area and a view that we will throw in for free!! Max 9 pax.
Bedding and kitchen (limited condiments) with plenty of pots and pans.
Bike, clothing and food, beer and wine..and pack so that you can carry a couple of hundred metres is required!!

Packed up, leaving the hut tidy and clean by 9am

Please liaise with us regarding when you will meet us for your ride up to the accommodation. The accommodation is only accessible via the Gorge shuttle vehicles.
Please leave the hut as you found it. Please strip the bedding from the beds and leave in the amenities area.
